Enbridge ranked #10 on Corporate Knights’ Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada
For the ninth year in a row, Corporate Knights named Enbridge to its Best 50 Corporate Citizens in Canada list.
This year, Enbridge also made it onto the highly prestigious top 10 list, earning the number 10 spot overall. “We are pleased to have achieved this ranking,” said Paul Hunt, Director, Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility. “We respect the methodology that Corporate Knights’ has developed to compile its list, and are honoured to be among such good company. I extend my congratulations to everyone at Enbridge who contributed to making this achievement possible. When it comes to good corporate social responsibility, it really does take everyone.”
Corporate Knights bases its decisions about which companies get named to the Best 50 list on environmental, social and governance indicators found in the public domain. Among others, they include:
- Energy productivity
- Carbon productivity
- Number of injuries and no-lost-time accidents per 1,000,000 hours worked
- Existence of sustainable development-themed board committees
- Existence of a Global Reporting Initiative corporate social responsibility report
While 2011 is the first time Enbridge has made it to the top ten list, the company has consistently improved its ranking over the years. In 2008 it ranked number 50, in 2009 it ranked number 39, and in 2010 it ranked number 29.
Corporate Knights is a Canadian-based “magazine for clean capitalism.” Its mission is to humanize the marketplace, and to make it easier for people to know the environmental and social impacts of their marketplace decisions.
